Bruxelles, Uccle
Uccle is primarily composed of detached houses, either scattered or semi-detached. For this project, we focused on a semi-detached house. This added an urban dimension (interacting with the neighboring house) to the considerations for the reconstruction project.
The urban scale was addressed in two ways: the street-facing façade was completely redesigned (removal of the previous embankment and the addition of a window, thus increasing the house's living space). At the rear, an extension was built to extend the living room into the large garden. The roof was also redesigned to incorporate dormer windows, thereby increasing the volume and living area. Inside, the layout of the house is arranged in a star shape around a central staircase. This staircase, the house's spine, is made of glass and allows light from the skylight in the roof to filter through.
