Private order

Uccle

2017

The residential district of Uccle is made up

mainly by dispersed individual housing or with joint ownership. For this project we approached a house with joint ownership. This added the urban issue (dialogue with the neighboring house) to the reflection on the project of

reconstruction.

The urban scale has been doubly confronted

because the facade on the street side has been completely redesigned (removal of the former median and addition of a window which allows us to increase the living area of the house). Back side we built an extension to overflow the living room in the large garden.

The roof has also been redone in order to introduce skylights and thus gain in volume and living space. Inside, the layout of the house develops in a star shape around a stairway. This staircase, the backbone of the house, is made of glass and allows the light coming from the glass well on the roof to pass through it.

This partial reconstruction and transformation allowed the ecological transition of the building by the installation of sarking insulation on the roof, the introduction of frames with thermal break and double glazing and the construction of a rainwater collection tank connected to the descents rainwater from the roof.
